Starting Out
A smaller home (with up to 1,800 square feet total heated space), it offers 2-3 bedrooms and 1.5 or 2 baths. The bedrooms are usually located in the same area of the house, away from the living room and dining rooms. The "starter" home typically features a small eat-in kitchen, and sometimes includes 'bonus space' for future expansion. Such homes appeal to small families with one child, and to couples who are just starting to build a family.
Moving Up
For the couple (or family) whose needs require more living space, this category of home features from 1,800 to 2,500 square feet, and appeals to working couples with children. In this group you will typically find expansive master suites, media or entertainment rooms, home offices, open kitchens, large decks and porches, and attached 2-car garages with ample storage/work space.
Empty Nesters & Couples Without Children
This
group includes couples whose children have moved out of the family home and couples without children. The homes featured here are slightly larger than starter homes -- up to 2,000 square feet -- and typically offer a large master suites guest rooms, and additional features such as attached 2-car garages with ample storage and work space. Many of these homes are single level.
Luxury Homes
This category offers at least 2,500 square feet of living space, with amenities such as large master (or dual master) bedroom suites and 3 or 4 additional bedrooms. Such plans allow for 3 full bathrooms, an attached garage for 2 or 3 cars, large family rooms, and many other features.
Vacation Homes
These are second homes with sizes, styles, and features which are appropriate for beach, mountain, golf resort, and similar communities.
